the superstition goes that if “rabbit rabbit rabbit” are the first words out of your mouth on the first day of a new month, you’ll have good luck for the rest of that month.
i’ve been saying “rabbit rabbit rabbit” every first day of the month since i leaened about this tradition from my 7th grade english teacher. in college, i threw “rabbit rabbit rabbit parties” where we’d gather to say it in unison at midnight, and my friend kennedy often brought their rabbit louise to supervise. on these nights, louise usually hung out in the corner of my living room, surveying us — i like to think she was watching to make sure we got it right.
louise is the rabbit in this print — she passed away earlier this year and her earthly presence is dearly missed (though we know all her spirit is busy haunting a supermarket produce section or something) 🐇🐇🐇
